The Power of One Campaign: Changing the world one light bulb at a time
We at Kay Lighing & Design believe
in protecting our environment one person at a time. We
are asking our customers and friends to change one light
bulb in your home to a compact fluorescent bulb. Ask our
design professionals which lamp (light bulb) suits your
needs.
What will this do? Can you imagine if every
home had one CFL Bulb in a lamp used frequently, we could
save enough money to light more than 2.5 million homes for
a year? Most importantly, prevent greenhouse gases equivalent
to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars. It's true!
Not only will you help save our environment for you, your
children and grandchildren, you will save some money as well.
One of the things we have heard is that
when people decide that they want to help the environment
they are surprised at how easy it is to make a difference.
We have compiled a list to start you off on the road to “
being green”.
Replace all the switches in your home with
our energy saving dimmers. Not only will you reduce the greenhouse
gas emissions going into the atmosphere, but also over a
short time period your savings on energy costs will pay for
the dimmers. Ask our lighting consultant how to go about
this easy one!
When redecorating your home, consider our
Brazilian hand-painted consoles, chests, table etc. All of
these items are made from reconstituted, recycled woods.
In a previous form they were farms and bridges! No new trees
were cut down to make this furniture!
Buy an antique? We carry
antique lighting, mirrors, furniture, etc. It always helps
to recycle these items and you get a little history as a
bonus!
Call on our lighting designers to suggest energy saving ideas
for your office or business, we would be glad to consult
with you.
Think energy savings appliances when replacing
them in your kitchen or laundry room. Our friends at Ray's
appliances (down the street) can help you pick the right ones.
Just to give an example – if every washing machine sold
in the U.S. this year alone was an energy efficient one, it
would save 900 Billion (with a “ B”) gallons of
water! Or, to put it another way, lifetime drinking water
for 67 million people.
Energy has to come from somewhere –
and it is usually fossil fuels. Since the average house causes
twice the greenhouse gas emissions of the average car over
the course of a year, these reduced costs can also be seen
as savings equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions of 25
million cars! Homebuilders are noticing these numbers more
and more. Speaking of cars, how about considering a hybrid
as your next vehicle?
You will be surprised at how good you feel when you implement
any of these great ideas.
Our “ power
of one – changing the world one light bulb at a time”
campaign is easier than you think and it begins at home. You
can make a difference.
